Ester White

Ester L. White, 85, died at 6:20 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton. 

Born October 11, 1924 in Springfield, MO, she was the daughter of Pearl and Allie (Bridges) Scroggins. 

Mrs. White was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jerseyville.  She was a retired LPN from Alton Memorial Hospital where she was a joy to all of her patients and fellow co-workers.  Her hobbies were gardening and walking with her dog.  She spent the last four years of her life at Eunice Smith Nursing Home, where she was an active participant in all of the many daily activities provided by the staff.  On February 2, 1942 in Branson, MO, she married Joseph O. White Sr. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1978. 

Surviving are four sons, Joe and wife Brenda Kaye of Mt. Olive, James and wife Diane of Godfrey, William and wife Shirley of Henley, MO, David and wife Brenda of Pocahontas, Ark, eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, two sisters, Wanda Mazza of Sun City, CA and Viola Davis of Fresno, CA. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, Warren Lee, two brothers, Glen and Clinton and two sisters, Noma Lipscomb and Lois Tummons. 

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton. 

Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Reverend Janet Riley will officiate.  Memorials may be made to the Crisis Food Center.
