Emma Clabaugh

Emma Jane Clabaugh, 83, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.

  Born July 23, 1923 in Wood River, she was a daughter of George W. and Opal E. (Tennison) Clabaugh.  They both preceded her in death.

  Janie worked for the Wood River Water Department, then later became the City Clerk for the City of Wood River, a position she held for 19 years.  After that office closed, she worked in the Edwardsville City Clerk’s office for a time.  She retired from Home Federal Savings and Loan in Alton.  She was past president of the Zonta Club and a member of the First Baptist Church of Bethalto.

  She is survived by two sisters, Vina Neunaber and Helen Powell, both of East Alton; her brother and sister-in-law, Col. James and Sally Clabaugh of Sun City, Ariz.; and nine nieces and nephews and their families.

  Visitation will be Thursday, March 31 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights from noon until services begin at 2:00 p.m.  Pastor Charles West will officiate.

  Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

  Memorials may be made to the 1st Baptist Church of Bethalto.
