Emma Eileen Hargrave, 92, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Willow Rose Healthcare in Jerseyville.
She was born on March 14, 1932, in Alton, IL, the daughter of Alfred Charles and Emma C.G. (Allsman) Johnson. She married Charles Alfred Hargrave on January 29, 1949, in Cottage Hills. He preceded her on May 24, 2009.
Emma worked as a nursing aide at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton for 17 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Arizona. She enjoyed and taught painting. Making candy was another passion of hers along with being outside and crocheting. Emma also enjoyed making clothes for decorative concrete porch geese.
Survivors include her children, Linda L. (Larry) Downer, Jan S. (Ed) Hall, Brad D. (Susan) Hargrave; eight grandchildren, Joe Downer, Nichole (Josh) Schoebernd, Jason (Karmin) Hall, Jason (Janelle) Hargrave, Adam (Danyelle) Hargrave, Samantha (Jim) Dietzel, Nicholas (Ashley) Tripp, and Matthew (Stephanie) Tripp; eighteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Along with her parents, and husband, Charles, she was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Johnson; and a grandson, Jeff Downer.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Burial and graveside service will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
