Emily Greer

Emily Louise Greer, 88, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at her home with her family by her side, under the care of BJC Hospice.  She was born on October 29, 1922, the daughter of the late Lora Phillips and the late Lola (Guymon) and Mark Frieman.  She married Lindsay C. Greer on November 8, 1941 in St. Louis, MO.  He preceded her in death on September 28, 1993.  Emily was a homemaker and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Tim Hanlon of Godfrey, and Linda and Nelson Ledbetter of Vonore, TN, three grandchildren, Rodney Ledbetter and his wife Masako of New York, Erin Spain and her husband Tom of Godfrey, and Meagan Hanlon of Godfrey, four great grandchildren, Caitlyn Hanlon, Claire and Jack Spain, and Kyle Ledbetter.  She also leaves several nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, Helen Emerick and her husband Leroy of Wood River, and Helen Phillips of Alton.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Phillips and a sister, Mildred Coatney. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.  Mary Ann Lawrence, BJC Hospice Chaplain, will officiate.  Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to the BJC Hospice caregivers, Nancy, Brenda, and Mindy.
