Elta Mae Barrett, 95, of Wood River passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023 at OSF St. Anthony’s Medical Center in Alton. She was born February 2, 1928 in Lutesville, MO to Melvin and Mandi (Abernathy) Mouser. She married William “Bill” Barrett October 16, 1947 in Cottage Hills; he preceded her in death January 24, 2010. She worked for the Roxana School District in the Cafeteria and as a gate attendant and hostess for Rend Lake for over 20 years until she retired.
Elta was a lifelong member of Pleasant View General Baptist Church in Wood River. She was a prayer warrior and a masterful cook. She enjoyed fishing, quilting and cross stitching.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet Mitchell of Rosewood Heights and Connie Isham of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Sat Inder Singh Khalsa of India, Tera (David) Wiseman of Shipman, Jeremy Fisher of Omaha, NE, Chelsey (Andrew) Greer of Council Bluffs, IA and William Isham of Omaha, NE; great grandchildren, Sawyer Wiseman, Sheridan Wiseman, Winifred Greer and Henry Greer; brother, Raymond (Sally) Mouser of Paris, MO and a sister, Clara Ann (Howard) Brown of Scopus, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, McCoy, William and Harold Mouser and sisters, Virginia Wood and Glenda Angel.
Visitation will be from 10 am, until the time of services at 11 am, Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Online guestbook available at www.paynicfh.com.
