Elsie Blotna

Elsie Blotna, 88, died on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Willow Rose Rehab & Health Care in Jerseyville after an extended illness.She was born in Cheltenham, England on Feb. 17, 1923, and was the daughter of the late John & Elizabeth (Keen) Williams.She graduated from high school in England, and later met George Blotna, who happened to be serving with the U.S. Army during World War II.  They married on Oct. 27, 1945 in Cheltenham and she soon came to the United States, where she was very proud to become an American citizen in 1951.She & George loved to travel, and the two traveled extensivley throughout the United States including Alaska,  and to her home country of England, as well as Australia and Bermuda.She was a former member of the Women of the Moose, and she loved to socialize with friends and family, was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs.Surviving are her husband, George Blotna of Jerseyville;  a daughter & son in law, Patricia & Angelo Sperino of Jerseyville; a son & daughter in law, Ronald & Connie Blotna of Monmouth; four grandchildren & their spouses, Craig & Laura Jones of Jerseyville, Cathy & Todd Campbell of Brighton, Christen & Jeremy Edwards of Dixon, and Ashley & Drew Colwell of Springfield; five great grandchildren, Andrew, Collin, Colten, Trace, Tyler, and the sixth great grandchild due in November; a brother, Ronald Williams, and a sister, Betty Elliott both of Cheltenham, England.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Veronica Blotna; and two sisters, Peggy Cook and Molly Williams.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday.  Rev. Dean Blackwell of the Piasa United Methodist Church and Roger Mourning will officiate.Burial will be in the Tribble Cemetery in Piasa.Memorials may be given to the Willow Rose Rehab & Health Care Pavillion Fund.
