Elmer E. Harbour, 94, passed away at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at home. He was born Nov. 15, 1915 in Wood River to Claudius Wayne Harbour (who died at the early age of 35) and Lena Christine (Fingerhut) Harbour. Elmer worked in rim fire loading for Olin Corp. until his retirement Jan. 1, 1978. He was a member of the Wood River Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights for many years. He also was an avid Cardinals fan and never missed a game.
He married Maurita Maguire Oct. 2, 1939 in St. Charles, Mo. She preceded him in death in 1975 from complications of Hodgkin’s disease. They had one son, Vernon Harbour, who also preceded him in death in 2010, and one daughter, Yvonne (Harbour) Clark and her husband Jimmie Clark of Shipman.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Lonnie Harbour and his wife Michelle, Brian Harbour and his wife Tonia, Becky (Harbour) Powers and her husband Aaron, and Jason Clark and his wife Melissa; six great grandchildren, Ryan Harbour, Jonathan, Douglas and Nicholas Powers, and Derek and Kyle Cantrell; four step great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. There are also many nieces and nephews, three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, some of whom have already passed away.
In addition to his parents, wife, and son, he also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Laura Lee (Harbour) Reed and his only sister, Mildred (Harbour) Covey and her husband Roy.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights and will continue Friday, Nov. 12 at St. Paul United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m. Reverend Daryl Fansler will officiate.
Interment will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
