Elizabeth June Sauls, age 85, passed away June 4, 2025, at San Gabriel Memory Care in Highland, Illinois.
She was born November 17, 1939, in Trenton, Illinois to Leo and Helen (nee Kohlbrecker) Korte. The family moved to Bethalto, Illinois when she was very young. She attended school there graduating from Civic Memorial High School.
On September 7, 1957, she married Richard Deneen Sauls at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto, Illinois.
In early 1960, they moved to Huntsville, Alabama then to Madison, Alabama in 1964. June and Dean were one of several families to help start St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Madison, Alabama, where she was very involved teachings CCD and many other activities.
In late 1978, they moved back to Illinois settling near Alhambra, so they could be closer to their parents. June held several jobs through the years, most notably working at the high school cafeteria in Madison, Alabama, and as a Wal-Mart associate in Highland, Illinois.
June loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed taking care of her big hanging flower baskets and watching the finch’s and hummingbirds come and go to the feeder in her backyard. She also enjoyed going shopping.
Survivors include: Sons - Michael (Carole) Sauls of New Douglas, IL and Marty (Traci) Sauls of Leawood, KS; Grandchildren – Jacob Sauls of Highland, IL, Kasey (Jason) West of Charlotte, NC, Jesse Sauls of Alhambra, IL, Lindsey (Josh) Tant of Charleston, SC, Julie (Randy) Hiesterman of Palmer, KS, and Mitch Sauls of Minneapolis, MN; Great Grandchildren – Riley West, Hank West, Charlotte Aagaard, Luna Tant and Joni Tant; Sister – Carol (Gary) Null of Bunker Hill, IL; Sisters-In-Law – Judy Sauls of Sorento, IL and Marilyn (Dave) Garst of Girard, IL.
She was preceded in death by: Husband – Richard Sauls; Parents - Leo & Helen Korte; Siblings – Fred Korte, Robert Korte and Joann Hudspeth; Father & Mother-In-Law – Brice & Virginia Sauls; and Brother-In-Law – Jack Sauls.
June was a member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church and the St. Gertrude Altar Society.
Visitation for Elizabeth June Sauls will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 4 to 7 pm and Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 8 to 9:30 am at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 10 am at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Grantfork, IL, with Father Callistus Oslaga officiating.
Interment will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, IL.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Gertrude Altar Society.
