Elbert “Bert” Grossheim, 94, died at 5:36 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023 at his residence. He was born August 14, 1928 in Alton, IL the son of the late Carl and Ethel (Cruthird) Grossheim, Sr. He served in the U.S. Army during the Koreen War and retired from General Motors as a supervisor. On September 14, 1957 in East Alton he married Wanda Lee Rogers and she preceded him in death on February 19, 2013. Surviving are three children, Kim Rose (Bernie) and her children: Jason Bramley (Kara) and Jessica Lundy (John), one son, Kevin Grossheim and his children: Jacki Schranck (Stephen), Jake Grossheim and Myah Grossheim and daughter, Kerri Brown and her children: Cody Brown and Cole Brown. Also surviving are nine great grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Wilma Middleton, his loving dog, Tootsie and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by two brothers and sister in laws, Carl Grossheim, Jr. (Rae) and Edgar Grossheim (Lois). Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023 with full military honors by Alton VFW Post 1308. Reverend Steven Helfrich will officiate. Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice or 5A’s Animal Shelter.
