Elaine Frances Mayerhofer
Godfrey | Saturday, December 10 2011
Elaine Frances Mayerhofer passed away at her son’s home in Godfrey, Illinois. She fought a five month battle with lung cancer.
Like everything else in life, Elaine approached her battle with cancer with courage, strength, hope and faith. With the help of her family, Elaine battled the cancer every day since her diagnosis in July. Her approach to the challenges of life, including cancer, serves as a great example for her family left here on earth! We are so very proud of you mom!
She was born March 29, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri to Lester and Violet Jenkins. She was a proud resident of Alton and graduated from Alton High School in 1958. Growing up, Elaine enjoyed being a bit of tomboy in a time when many girls were not welcomed in sports. She played softball on a north side girl’s team in Alton. Elaine married Antone Mayerhofer, Jr. on April 9, 1961. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year. Elaine worked as a beautician for more than 20 years and enjoyed doing hair and visiting with her clients. She later went to work for the Alton School District as a lunchroom monitor, teacher’s aide, and finally as an attendance clerk at the high school. Elaine found a home working with children and retired from the district in 2005 after 20 years of service. Elaine enjoyed ceramics, attending church, and traveling. She was a member of Community Christian Church in Alton and spent many happy days there.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Tony, and three children, Debby Scott and husband Ben Scott of Moro, Roger Mayerhofer of Alton, and Steven Mayerhofer and girlfriend Christina Bredhold of Godfrey. Six grandchildren; Libby Felix, Christopher Pickell, Melissa Ray, Cody Kearbey, Nicholas Kearbey, Michael Mayerhofer and two great grandchildren Ryan Mayerhofer and Ayden Ray.
Her parents preceded her in death.
