Edwina “Babe” Weishaupt, 88, died at 3:40 a.m. Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Blu-Fountain Manor in Godfrey. Born June 17, 1922 in Alton, she was the daughter of Edward and Clara (Fensterman) Needham. She had worked for Standard Oil Company in Wood River and was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and pinochle and spending time with family and friends.
On September 1, 1956 in Alton, she married Robert D. Weishaupt. He survives. Also surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Pat Tanney of Godfrey, two grandchildren, Jessica and Michael Tanney both of Alton and two sisters, Roberta Haneghan of Rockford, IL and Mary Brunaugh of Bunker Hill and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Haneghan and four sisters, Veronica Waymire, Patricia Whiting, June Fortschneider and Vivian O’Toole.
Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton.
Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey. Father Delix Michel will officiate.
Memorials may be made to SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, American Heart Association or St. Anthony’s Hospice.
