Edwards Raymond Lyons

Edward Raymond Lyons, 67, died at 10:58 p.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, IL.



He was born in Alton on Jan. 7, 1943, and was the son of the late Thomas & Dorothy (Dannenbrink) Lyons.


A graduate of Alton Senior High School, his career was spent with the U.S. Army, and his 25 year career began at Ft. Polk in Louisiana, and then to Ft. Rucker in Alabama.  It was while he was stationed in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, that his two daughters were born.  He also spent time in Germany, Ft. Hood, Texas, Norfolk, Va., and eventually retired as a Sergeant First Class from Fort Story, Virginia.  After his honorable discharge, he & his family moved back to his wife's hometown of Grafton.


He married the former Sharon J. Rulo and May 18, 1973 in Sarasota, Florida, and she survives.


Also surviving are two daughters & a son in law, Nicole Dickson of College Ward, Utah and Samantha & Jason Perry of Flora; three grandchildren, Grace, Olivia and Cole; a sister, Susan Parich of Alton; two brothers, Toby Lyons & Larry Lyons both of Arizona; his father in law, Rolla Rulo, and his wife Judy of Jerseyville, as well as numerous other members of his Rulo family.


He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Ella; and a sister, Patricia Gaither.


Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.


Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Godfrey.


Burial will take place in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.


In lieu of flowers & plants, the family would greatly appreciate any memorials be given to his family in care of the funeral home to help defray expenses.?
