Edward L. “Buster” Terpening, 88, died at 10:37 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born May 5, 1922 in Alton the son of the late Leroy and Martha Irene (Riley) Terpening Meyer. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII; he retired in 1985 as a crane operator with the Olin Corporation in East Alton. He was a member of the VFW Post 1308 and North Alton Southern Baptist Church. On July 26, 1947 he married Jane L. Maul and she preceded him in death on February 23, 1985.
Surviving are two daughters; Sue Osborne (Jack) of Bethalto and Mary Bouillon (Randall) of Jerseyville. One son; Paul Terpening (Valerie) of Vancleave, Mississippi, nine grandchildren; Bill Osborne, Michael Osborne, Tiffany Blevins, Kelly Walter, Becky Depping, Julie Schultz, John Mosby, Eric Terpening, and Sara Terpening. Seven great grandchildren; Madelyn Walter, Kaitlyn Depping, Zachary Depping, Jenna Schultz, Trevin Depping, Patsy Blevins and Willard Blevins. One brother; Melvin Meyer (Marilyn) of Godfrey. He was preceded in death by a special friend; Elsie Goosetree, one daughter; Patsy Jane Miller, one son; Joseph Leroy Terpening, one grandson; Troy Terpening, three brothers and two sisters; Harold Terpening, Eleanora Adams, Dorothy Steed, Robert Meyer and Richard Meyer.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 4. 2011 at Gent Funeral Home where funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Ralph Corwin to officiate.
Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Garden in Bethalto with full military honors from the VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
