Edward Joseph Duggan, 84, passed away at 12:55 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2012 at the home of his son & daughter in law in Jerseyville, where he had resided the last several years.Born on May 13, 1928 at his parents residence in Jerseyville, he was one of three children born to the late John M. & Elizabeth K. (Heitzig) Duggan. After the early death of his father, his mother moved the family back to her childhood home in Fieldon, where he and his siblings were raised.In 1948, he was inducted in the U.S. Army, and after basic training, he was sent to Japan. In 1950, he was sent back the U.S., and was listed in the reserves. That same year he was recalled to active duty and sent to Germany during the Korean War.He was a member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, as well as a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus member, lifelong member of the VFW, and an Ambassador with the Jersey County Business Association.All his close friends and family lovingly knew him as "Pops" and the gift of his smile made your day alot happier.After his honorable discharge in 1952, Ed became employed at McDonnell Douglas, Inc., now known as Boeing Aircraft. He retired in 1990 after 38 years of service as an assistant foreman in production control. During that same period, he also managed the Stadium Theatre in Jerseyville for over 12 years.He married the former Gladys M. Seidler of Calhoun County on Sept. 5, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon. Together they were the parents of six children, but were only able to enjoy nearly 16 years together before her untimely death at 39 years of age on April 29, 1969, however, she has remained in his heart ever since.He is survived by his son & daughter in law, Michael & Goldie (Teney) Duggan of Jerseyville; three daughters & sons in law, Patricia & John Huisinga of Clinton, Paula & Charles Hoffstetter of Dover, Tn., and Melody & Dan Percy of St. Peter's, Mo.; 11 Grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; a brother & sister in law, John & Betty Duggan of Fieldon; a sister & brother in law, Lelia & Gervese Roundcount of Eldred; and many nieces, nephews and their families.In addition to his parents and wife, Gladys, he was preceded in death by two sons that he dearly missed, Thomas Eugene Duggan in 1971, and Robert Joseph Duggan on Aug. 23, 2002; a great nephew, Dusty, his second wife, Ann, and a companion, Jackie.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where prayers will be said at 3:30 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow officiating.Burial will be alongside his wife and sons at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Fieldon with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites.A luncheon will follow at the Knights of Columbus in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to Masses or to the Illinois Valley Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville, in honor of his son, Robert.He will be sadly missed by all.
