Edward Lee Jacoby, 89, went to Heaven September 15, 2025, with his family by his side. Born September 7, 1936, he was the son of the late Virginia and Wendell Jacoby. Ed attended Roxana High School and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He had a passion for law enforcement, firearms, and most importantly, family.
Early in life, Ed spent time as a Texas Ranger. He frequently shared stories and reminisced on his experiences. Later, he worked in ballistics for Olin Corporation where he retired in 1994. After retiring, he continued working at the Winchester Handgun Facility until he was 84 years old. Ed was a lifetime member of the NRA; he also served on the Roxana and Brighton Police Departments before becoming the Brighton Police Commissioner. He was a pillar of the Brighton community and his dedication will be missed.
Ed married the late Carol Hull in 1959. Together they had two daughters, Jan and Julie. After Carol’s passing, he married the true love of his life, Ruth Cunningham (Fessler) in 1983, and gained a bonus daughter, Staci. Ed lived for his family.
Ed is survived by his wife, Ruth, three daughters - Jan (Mike) Ashley, Julie (Eric) Griffin, Staci Corby (Ronnie Boswell), several grandchildren - Mandi (Tanner) Fink and Averi Corby (Dylan Green), as well as Kristin Mollett, Abby (Bob) Bass, Erika, Seth, and Grace Griffin, and great granddaughter Oaklyn Fink, as well as many other great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Janet Jacoby, and first wife Carol Hull.
Visitation will be held from 9 am until the time of funeral service at 11 am on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church of Brighton, where Ed was a faithful member. Funeral services will be led by Pastor Mark Wendleton.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or a memorial of one’s choice.
A private family burial will be held at a later date in Brighton Cemetery.
