Edward D. Douglas Sr., 84, died at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at his residence. He was born February 21, 1929 in Rosebud, MO, the son of the late Lew and Nancy (Garrett) Douglas. He retired as a welder in 1991 from Mississippi Lime Company in Alton. He was a volunteer fireman in Godfrey for many years. He loved gardening, and had the best green beans in the world. Woodworking and bowling were other hobbies along with being an accomplished musician playing guitar and singing. On October 18, 1947 he married Helen Marie Terpening and she preceded him in death on May 30, 2011 after 63 ½ years of marriage. Survivors include his beloved son and daughter, who took care of him during his illness the last several months; Penny Douglas Jestes and Timothy Douglas (Trudi). Sharon Newell, Catherine Devening, Edward Douglas Jr. and David Douglas. 13 beloved grandchildren and several great grandchildren, four sisters; Vivian Wiseman, Shelvy Tucker, Barbara Dossett and Brenda Brunnworth; and his beloved dogs; Jewell and Benjamin. He was preceded in death by his four sisters; Ellen Douglas, Violet Falls, Juanita Eads and Julia Miller. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 5, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at GENT Funeral Home in Alton. A funeral mass will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey followed by a luncheon at St. Ambrose Community Center.
