Edward D. Butler, 74, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville.
Born May 31, 1937 in St. Louis, Mo., he was a son of Edward H. and Elizabeth (Chilton) Butler.
He married Doris A. Ross Nov. 7, 1961 in Washington, Mo. She survives.
An assistant plant manager for British Oxygen Co., he retired in 2000 after 35 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1960-1962. He was also a member of the Alton Eagles.
In addition to his wife, surviving are four sons, Loren Butler of Alton, Anthony Butler and his wife Jeannine of St. Jacob, Ill., Tracy Butler and his wife Rene of Bethalto, and Brad Butler of Bethalto; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild; and a sister, Sharon Sipes of Eminence, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pauline Lohmeyer; and a brother, Vern Randolph.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 21 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Wood River from 10 a.m. until memorial services begin at 12 p.m. Rev. Mike Southcomb will officiate.
Private inurnment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
