Edward A. Garis, 72, formerly of Moro, died at 3:49 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis, MO.
Born February 17, 1943 in Alton, he was the son of Johnie and Margaret (Ball) Garis. Mr. Garis served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Amphion and was a machinist at Olin Corporation retiring in 2005. He enjoyed drawing and wood carving, traveling with his wife, playing golf with his buddies, and card and dice games with his family and friends.
He married Barbara Jean Feuquay on September 22, 1972. She preceded him in death on June 8, 2003. Surviving are four children, Robin Christine (Eichorn) Perrotte of O’Fallon, MO, Rachelle “Rocky” (Eichorn) Cartwright of Alton, Edward J. Garis of Wood River, and Tracy (Eichorn) Malloy of Godfrey, 10 grandchildren, Ashton Pickering, Blake Perrotte, Carsyn Perrotte, Drew Perrotte, and Evan Perrotte all of O’Fallon, MO, Addison Cartwright and Quinn Cartwright both of Alton, Kourtney Garis of Conroe, TX, and Lindsey (Fee) Coughlin and Natalie Quinonez both of Alton, and two great-grandchildren, Grace Coughlin and Jack Coughlin both of Alton. Also surviving are two brothers, Johnie (Nancy) Garis of Edwardsville and Jerry Garis of Godfrey. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Karrick.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2015 at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens with full military services by the VFW Post 1308.
