Edna M. Smith, 91, passed away at 6:35am on Friday, August 3, 2012, at Bethalto Care Center.
She was born on June 23, 1921 in Olin, Illinois the daughter of the late William H. and Ella (Trexler) Wilson. She married Harold Waltrip on March 12, 1942 and he preceded her in death in November of 1984. She then married Eugene Smith on February 5, 1988 in Paducah, Kentucky and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter and son in law: Edith and Ron Baggett of Roxana, one son and daughter in law: Terry and Gay Waltrip of Richmond, Texas, one step - son and his wife: Richard and Sharon Smith of Columbia, Tennessee, one step - daughter and her husband: Kriste and Cecil Wade of Bethalto, four grandchildren and their spouses: Darren and Mary Baggett, Barry Baggett, Karen and Jason Barnum, Rob and Nichole Waltrip, fourteen great grandchildren, and two great - great grandchildren, one sister and brother in law: Hazel and Jack Cannedy of Grover, Missouri, one brother and sister in law: Joe and Peggy Wilson of Rosewood Heights.
She was formerly employed at Central School in Roxana in the cafeteria. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Hartford.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Betty and Helen, one brother: Maurice, and two stillborn brothers.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River and will continue from 10am until time of funeral services at 11am on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at the funeral home. Rev. Frank Sparks will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials are suggested to New Hope Baptist Church.
