Edna “Lorraine” King

Edna “Lorraine” King, 77, died at 7:10 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at Christian Hospital NE in St. Louis, MO with her family by her side. 

She was born July 1, 1933 in Evansville, Indiana, the daughter of the late Alvin and Katie Underhill.  On December 20, 1951 in Evansville, she married Donald M. King and he preceded her in death on January 12, 2000.  She was an active member in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, where she decorated the hall for every holiday.  She enjoyed playing darts and line dancing. 

She is survived by three daughters; Donna Hofgren and her husband Dennis of Alton, Karla Sheppard and Ernest Grim of Alton, and Laura Taulbee and her husband Bryan of Alton.  Five grandchildren; Dana Middleton and her husband Matthew, Katie Hofgren, Randy Sheppard, Bradley Taulbee and Ava Taulbee.  Eight great grandchildren;  Kara Middleton, Jacob Middleton, Kayla Davis, Tamar Terry, Aaliayah King, Kori Sheppard, Alexis Zimmerman and Kale Sheppard,  a  sister in law; Jessie Underhill of Evansville, IN, and her very good friend:  Ray Zimmerman of Alton.  She was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Bryan “Alex” Taulbee and Carrie Dawn King.  One brother; Lester Underhill, a sister; Elizabeth Hill and one infant sister. 

Visitation will be Monday, October 18, 2010 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.  Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Gent Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Post 1308 Ritual Team. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 1308.
