Edna Chester

Edna J, Chester, 82, passed away 2:45 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Christian Hospital Northeast.

Born on May 20, 1933 in Raleigh, IL, she was the daughter of Byford Franklin and Nellie Faye (Turner) Rapp.

She had been a store manager for Claire's Boutique and Canarie and Elephant for 12 years before retiring in 1990.

She served as a Trustee for the Village of South Roxana for 10 years and was a past member of the South Roxana Dad's Club Auxiliary.

On August 20, 1948 in Piggott, Ark., she married Lowell Neil Chester.  He died August 1, 2005.

Surviving are three sons, Tim (Cindy) Chester of Wood River, Frank (Cindy) Chester of East Alton, Terry (Diane) Chester of South Roxana; three daughters, Gerry (Dennis) Droit of Bethalto, Nena (Ed) Collens of Port Charlotte, FL, Janelle (Randy) Crandell of Rosewood Heights; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Janice (Ralph) Gustafson of Fountain Hills, AZ.

Visitatio will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Roxana Church of the Nazarene.  Rev. Earl Gillett will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the church where she had been a member.

Marks Mortuary in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
