Edith M. Herren, 72, passed away at 9:39 am Thursday October 1, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born on March 14, 1937 in Alton, the daughter of Pete & Louisa (Zarantonello) Manar.
She married Gerald Herren on July 10, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. He survives.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. She worked as a registered nurse for St. Joseph's Hospital, Dr. Mucchi, St. Anthony's and retired from Alton Mental Health after 22 years of service. She enjoyed her profession and was very caring and wonderful to her patients. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, jokes, and entertaining family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is also survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Peter William Herren of Delhi and Gerald & Cindy Herren of Springfield, MO; five grandchildren and spouses, Joseph & Megan Herren of Kansas City, MO, Matthew & Kristen Herren of Springfield, MO, Bethany & Jeremy Keil of Brighton, Marie Herren of Godfrey, and Zachary Herren of Elsah; three great grandchildren, Alyssa Nicole Keil of Brighton, Eli Herren of Springfield, MO, Hannah Herren of Kansas City, MO, and expecting a great granddaughter, Emily; one sister, Rosie Rubis of Bunker Hill; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard & Carla Finn of Bunker Hill and Bill & Paula Manar of Dorsey and many loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lucy Ament, Angie Epperheimer, and Pina Watts; and one brother, Charles Manar.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday October 3, 2009 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will held at 10 a.m. Monday October 4, 2009 with Fr. Don Robert celebrating.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
