Earl Mundell, 96, passed away at 7:00 pm Sunday November 28, 2010 at Edwardsville Nursing and Rehab.
He was born on July 10, 1914 in Jerseyville, IL, the son of Dixon and Leonara (Ross) Mundle.
He was married to Dolores Martin on October 17, 1941 in Alton, IL. She passed away on April 6, 1985. He later married Dorothy Honke in January 1986 at the College Avenue Presbyterian in Alton.
Earl was a salesman for the Alton Box Board for 32 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton. He was president of his freshman and senior classes in 1931 and 1935. He was president of his freshman and senior classes at Shurtleff College in 1936 and 1940. He played sports in college. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and he volunteered for Meals on Wheels for over 26 years, retiring 3 years ago.
In addition to his second wife, Dorothy of Jerseyville, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Nelson Harris of Alton and Ellen and Harold Emde of Bethalto; a stepson and his wife, Thomas and Jerre Honke of Alton; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, a stepson, Dennis Honke, a brother, Kenneth Mundell and two sisters, Edith Lahey and Ethel Haegele.
A celebration of his life, memorial service will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 22, 2011 with Pastor Bill Veith officiating at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton.
Private inurnment was at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military rites provided by the Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to the College Avenue Presbyterian Church or Edwardsville Nursing and Rehab.
