Dorothy S. Hardbeck, 83, died at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at her home. Born November 30, 1927 in Rural Alton, she was the daughter of Edward Sr. and Sarah Voumard. She received her undergraduate degree from Shurtleff College and her master’s degree in education from Washington University. She taught all 8 grades in a one room country school and later taught 3rd grade in Fosterburg. She was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Edwardsville. On August 1, 1954 she married Donald Hardbeck at the Salem Presbyterian Church in Alton.
Surviving is her husband; Dr. Donald Hardbeck, four daughters; Donna Hardbeck of Godfrey, Beth Bradley and husband Sean of Kansas City, MO, Janet Hardbeck of Godfrey, and Karen Arensmann and her husband Frank of Godfrey, four grandchildren; Phillip Goodrich of Godfrey, Glen Bradley and Siobhan Bradley both of Kansas City, and Amelia Arensmann of Godfrey, and two sisters; Helen Moore of Vandalia, IL, and Violet Borchelt of Arthur, IL. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Edward and Roy Voumard.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Reverend Jackie Havis-Shear will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the 5A’s Animal Shelter.
