Dorothy P. Lewis, 99, passed away Friday September 28, 2012, at 4:50pm at Rosewood Care Center with her family by her side.
She was born in Alton on Augutst 2, 1913, the daughter of Walter and Theresa (Fahrig) Boschert.
She married James J. Lewis at St. Mary’s Church in Alton on November 13, 1933 and he preceded her in death on July 16, 1961.
Dorothy graduated from Marquette High School in 1931 and attended the Ursuline Convent business school. She was a loving mother to her entire family and was a kind person to everyone she met.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Carey, of Bethalto; a daughter in law, Judith Lewis, of Alton; six grandchildren, Susan (Mark) Cappel, Michael (Vanessa) Drahl, Linda (Tracy) Phillips, Steven Carey, Teresa (Robert) Overby, and Doug Carey; seven great-grandchildren, Carey Cappel, Mark Carey, Elizabeth Carey, Rachel Drahl, Lee Drahl, Kyle Drahl, and Robert (Bo) Overby; a great-great granddaughter, Kaylen Carey; a dear sister and brother in law, Genevieve and Willard (Lefty) Grove; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter Elaine Drahl, and a son, James Lewis.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 pm Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 noon Monday October 1, 2012 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Fr. Jerry Wickenhauser officiating, and Deacon Bill Kessler assisting.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Queen of Peace Infirmary at Ursuline Convent, St. Anthony’s Hospice, or to St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
