Dorothy M. (Shaw) Benecke

Dorothy M. (Shaw) Benecke, 92, passed away at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at her residence with family by her side.

She was born in Alton, IL on October 20, 1920 the daughter of the late Clyde and Belle (Lemon) Oldham.

She married Paul Benecke in Alton on June 7, 1947.  

Dorothy was a Secretary and Dental Assistance for Dr. Robert Allen for over 30 years and was a member of Main Street Methodist Church in Alton. She was the eldest of seven children, enjoyed gardening and was devoted to her family and friends.

She is survived by one daughter; Lynda Shaw Mundy of Alton, five grandchildren; Jamie Greer and her spouse Craig, Debbie Eichon and her spouse Bob, Fred Shaw and his spouse Jeri Lynn, Brent Shaw and Lynn Shaw; eleven great grandchildren; Jacob Van Allman, Krystal Coggins, Shellby Grove, Matthew and Daniel Hedger, Jason Shaw, Cody, Jacob, Kaleb, Justin and Layton Shaw, four great-great grandchildren; RaeLeigh Beyers, Max and Lucas Coggins and Luca Van Allman, one sister; Norma Barrows of Mesa, AR; two brothers, Russel Oldham and his spouse Bonnie of St. Peters, MO and Harold Oldham of Alton; a sister-in-law; Barbara Shaw, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; one granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Grove; one son, Fred Shaw; and three brothers, Robert, Lloyd and Roger Oldham. 

Visitation will be from 1 pm until time of service at 4 pm on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Main Street Methodist Church in Alton, IL with Rev. Jame Hahs officiating.

Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.

Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice.
