Dorothy L. Bierman, 69, died at 4:10 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born December 14, 1941 in Medora, IL, she was the daughter of James and Virginia (Long) Bates. Dorothy was a school teacher for three years and worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses retiring from Mississippi Lime Company in 1999 as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton as well as the Red Hat Society in Carlinville. She was an avid quilter and a member of the American Quilt Society. On August 30, 1986 in Alton, she married Robert Bierman. He survives. Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Stacy and Loren Godsil of Ballwin, MO and Tonya and Eric Bechtold of Alton, one son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Trisha Clevenger of Piasa, IL, one step-daughter, Kimberly Phelps of Florissant, MO, one step-son, Jeffrey Bierman of Washington State, three grandchildren, Thomas Godsil, Madelynn Clevenger, and Mallory Clevenger, four step-grandchildren, Tyra, Kerry, Katelyn and Kelly Phelps, one brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Debbie Bates of Sylvisa, KY, and two sisters, Diana Watt and Shelia Joyner both of Temple, TX. She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Bates and one sister, Marsha Killian. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. Reverend Andre’ Dobson will officiate. Burial will be at Shipman Cemetery in Shipman, IL. Memorials may be made to the Arms of Love or the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, Inc.
