Dorothy Honke Mundell, age 86 passed away at 2:10 am Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Liberty Village Nursing and Rehab in Jerseyville.
She was born in Alton, Illinois on September 26, 1924 to the late Harry and Lillian (Ibsen) Russell. She married Oliver Honke in Wood River, Illinois January 25, 1946. Oliver preceded her in death in May 1979. She and Oliver owned and operated Honke Pharmacy. She later married Earl Mundell in January 1986 in Alton. Earl passed away November 28, 2010. Along with her parents and husbands, Dorothy was preceded in death by a son Dennis Honke and two brothers Gene Russell and Richard Russell of Alton and stepdaughter, Ellen Emde of Bethalto.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Honke and daughter-in-law Jerre of Alton, daughter-in-law Joni of Godfrey, stepdaughter, Jane Harris and her husband Nelson of Alton and stepson Harold Emde of Bethalto; five grandchildren, Betsy Honke, Alex Honke and Robert Honke and his wife Maleana of Alton, Ryan Honke of Florida, Scott Honke and wife Jackie of Texas; five great grandchildren, Kathryn, Emily, Madison, Korin and Andrew; seven step grandchildren Daniel, Christian, Lindsay, Steve, Jill, Robby and Becky and fourteen step great grandchildren.
Dorothy also leaves behind sisters-in-law Ruby Overton of Shreveport, Louisiana and Frances Russell of Godfrey; nieces Jeannie Nassello and Becky Taylor of Alton, Nancy Scahill of California and nephew Jim Overton of Shreveport.
Dorothy earned her nursing degree from Alton Memorial Hospital in 1944. She loved and enjoyed her family, golfing, reading and volunteering.
A memorial service will be held 11 am Friday, September 2, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton with Rev. Dale Jackson officiating.
Suggested memorials are the White Cross Auxiliary in care of Alton Memorial Hospital, College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton where she and Earl were members, or to a Charity of One’s Choice.
