Dorothy H. Vogelsang, 94, died at 4:55 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Blu-Fountain Manor in Godfrey.
Born September 25, 1916 in Alton, she was the daughter of George F. and Clara Fredericka (Ebel) Hoering. She owned and operated Try-Finer Cleaners in Alton from 1939-1986 and was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ.
She was an avid bridge player and St. Louis Cardinal base ball fan. On July 18, 1942, she married Ervin J. “Scottie” Vogelsang Sr. He preceded her in death on August 3, 1986.
Surviving is a step-son and his wife, John “Jack” and Mildred Vogelsang of Godfrey, a step daughter-in-law, Rosalie Vogelsang of Godfrey, five grandchildren, Dr. Pam Vogelsang Hampel of Prairie Village, KS, Dr. Judy Vogelsang of Kansas City, MO, Linda Vogelsang Benson of Naples, FL, Janice Dorsey of Greenville and Greg Vogelsang of Godfrey, seven great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, two sisters-in-law, Betty Hoering of Alton and Martha Hoering of Washington D.C. and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a step-son, Ervin J. “Chick” Vogelsang and three brothers, William, Robert and Dr. Thomas Hoering.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Reverend Jerry MeCaskey will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Evangelical United Church of Christ.
