Dorothy Elizabeth "Beth" Arnold, 81, died at 4:35 a.m., Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Calhoun Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hardin.
She was born in Hardin on Dec. 2, 1929, one of seven children born to the late August & Alta Godar. She was raised in the Catholic faith and attended schools in Hardin, graduating from Hardin High School in 1947. Beth married Vincent Raymond "Dutch" Arnold on May 12, 1956 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon, and they resided in Grafton for most their married life. In addition to serving as a teller at the Bank of Calhoun in Hardin, she also assited Dutch in the family business, Arnold's Boats and Motors in Grafton for many years. Beth & Dutch shared nearly 43 years together before his death on Feb. 10, 1999.
Surviving are a daughter & son in law, Barbara & John Burgess of Holmen, Wi.,; two sons & a daughter in law, David & Nancy Arnold of Wildwood, Mo., and Timothy Arnold & his partner, Dale Ballew of Scottsdale, Az.; four grandchildren, Anna Yang, and her husband, Ger of Aurora, Sarah Burgess and Noah Burgess both of Minneapolis, Mn., and Rachel Arnold of Wildwood; a great grandson, Theodore Yang of Aurora; a sister, Lucy Kinder of Hardin.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents, and her husband, Vincent; were a sister, Marie Willis, and four brothers, Robert, Jerome, David & Bill Godar.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. Thursday until time of funeral mass at 11 a.m. at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grafton, with Father Patrick Gibbons officiating.
Burial will be in the Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton.
Memorials may be given to the St. Patricks Catholic Church Altar Society.
The Arnold family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Calhoun Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the loving care and compassion shown to Beth during her extended stay with them.
