Dorothy B. Rowden, 98, died at 9:16 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 25, 1913 in Alton the daughter of the late George E. and Minnie (Klenk) Bryant. Dorothy worked as a clerk in downtown Alton at SS Kresge & Co and Hudson’s Jewelry for 10 years before becoming Secretary for J. Frank Rowden & Son Excavating in Alton. She was a 50 year member of 12th Street Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Alton/Wood River Sportsmen Club; Eagles Club; and Brighton Civic League. On March 16, 1934 in Alton she married J. Frank Rowden and he preceded her in death on December 25, 1995.
She is survived by one son; Ralph G. Rowden and his wife Sharon of Godfrey, three granddaughters; Ramona and Dr. Guillermo Rodriguez of Belleville, Deborah Rowden of Alton and Jennifer Schwarte and her husband Patrick of Alton, five great-grandchildren; Monica Rodriguez, Phillip and his wife Cami Rodriguez, Joshua Holden, Justin Holden and Grace Schwarte, one great-great granddaughter; Noelle Rodriguez.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at GENT Funeral Home in Alton with Reverend David Olson to officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla.
