Donald “Ray” Richardson, 54, of Peoria, IL, born Friday, October 9, 1970, in Belleville, IL, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025 at his residence in Peoria, IL.
Donald “Ray” Richardson, known to family and close friends as a sweet, loving soul, was a man whose heart was even bigger than his 6’4” frame. Throughout his life, he showed immense resilience and kindness, and his dream was always to help others, especially animals.
Ray returned to school to earn his GED and continued his education through college classes over the years. He owned and operated a shop called Fish Head in Belleville, where he sold fish and aquariums, and also worked in inventory management and sales for various companies. His ultimate dream was to become a veterinarian, and his love for animals, particularly cats, was evident throughout his life.
At the age of 21, Ray was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. Life, like for many, had its ups and downs, but with the unwavering support, love, and acceptance of his parents and family, he was always able to rise again after each setback. Education from NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) helped his family better understand his illness and provided the tools to support him. A special thank you is extended to Pathways for Recovery (formerly The Mission) in Peoria, Illinois, for their support in helping him find independence and deepen his relationships with God, family, friends, and himself.
Ray’s journey was marked by courage, perseverance, and a deep love for those around him. He will be remembered for his kind spirit, his laughter, and his dedication to making the world a better place.
