Donald R. Gaither, 77, died at 7:04 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2011 at his residence. Born April 13, 1934 in Mt. Erie, IL, he was the son of William John and Mary Jane (Walker) Gaither. Mr. Gaither served in the U.S. Army. He was a farmer his entire life and worked as a Journeyman Millwright for Procter & Gamble from 1969 until his retirement in 1985. On May 13, 1978 in Troy, IL, he married the former Laura L. Bell. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Tanya and Marty Miller of Paris, IL, and Tina and Jason Lyle of Lawrenceville, IL, five grandchildren, Julie, Dustin, Josh, Amanda, Ashley, four great grandchildren, and one brother, Robert Gaither and his wife Faye of Taylorville, IL. Mr. Gaither loved animals, especially his dog Samantha. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters including, Mary Alice Collins, Helen Gaither, William Gaither, Evelyn Morrell, and Jean Elkins. Visitation will be from _4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville. Father Patrick Gibbons will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be made to the A.S.P.C.A. or the Humane Society of the United States.
