Donald Elliott

Donald R. Elliott, 68, died at 12:22 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.  He was born June 21, 1942 in St. Louis the son of the late Joseph Raymond and Katie (Booten) Elliott.  Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He joined the Godfrey Congregational Church in Godfrey in 1982 and was a devoted member having served on numerous committees over the years.  Don worked as a carpenter’s apprentice under the guidance of Cal Ennis and retired as a supervisor from Shell Oil in Wood River after 36 years of service.  Since retirement he enjoyed traveling but his greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 


On July 16, 1983 he married the former Carolyn (Hammann) in Godfrey and two families united their hearts and families as one. Surviving are four children; Teresa Elliott Griffin (Jeff) of Godfrey, Donald L. Elliott of Alton, Dana Salzman Stroup (Craig) of Princeville, IL and Todd Salzman (Nikole) of Brighton, eight grandchildren; Donald Elliott, Erin Griffin, Nicholas, Matthew, Zachary and Jacob Stroup, Shelby and Brady Salzman, one great grandchild; Scott Stroup, a brother; David Elliott of Carlinville, two aunts; Hazel Bigham (Odell) of Godfrey and Mildred Booten of Marion, IL and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and loving friends.


Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. 

A celebration of his life will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday at the Godfrey Congregational Church, 6104 Godfrey Road with burial at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. 

Memorials may be given to the Godfrey Congregational Church.
