Donald Outland Cook, 79, of Battlefield, Missouri, died peacefully Wednesday, December 9, 2020, with his daughter by his side.
Don was born in Cadiz, Kentucky on February 1, 1941. He graduated from Murray State College and joined the Army. After the Army, he worked as a Defense Contractor for the Department of Defense until he retired. Don married Dorothy (Dottie) Macios on June 13, 1970. They were married for 47 years and raised two children, Doug and Donna.
Throughout his life, Don always exuded joy, friendship, and devotion to family and friends. He always found ways to help others in many ways--- everything from shoveling snow to sharing what he had.
He enjoyed gardening and working in the yard and was especially proud of his manicured lawn. In addition to gardening, he enjoyed reading, traveling, and listening to music, and singing. He and Dottie traveled overseas several times and lived in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia for several years prior to retirement.
His family and friends were very important to him. He loved to visit with them. He also enjoyed living near his grandchildren and attending their activities.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who will be greatly missed! He will be looking down on all his loved ones from heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Henry (Outland) Cook; wife Dorothy (Macios) Cook; step-son, Douglas Weckman; and granddaughter, Alexandra Arnold; and brothers Glenn Cook, Leslie Cook, and Bobby Cook.
Don is survived by his daughter, Donna (Cook) Arnold of Springfield, Missouri, grandsons Hunter Arnold of Cypress, Texas, Douglas and Andrew Arnold of Springfield, Missouri; granddaughter Victoria (Arnold) Stokes of Georgetown, Texas, brothers Darrell Cook of Dover, Tennessee, Raymond Cook of Fort Worth, Texas, and Howard ‘Buz’ Cook of Knoxville, Tennessee, sister Janice (Cook) Hicks of Jackson, Tennessee; and other family and treasured friends too numerous to mention.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 with the funeral following at 10:00 am on Monday, December 14, 2020, at Irwin Chapel Funeral Home in Granite City, Illinois.
Internment will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
