Donald Lloyd Worrell Sr., 76, passed away unexpectedly at 3:25 am Friday, August 15, 2014 at his home.
He was born on January 24, 1938 in Sorento, IL, the son of Leonard and Mary (Hastings) Worrell.
He married Shirley Martin on June 10, 1961 in Sorento. She survives.
He was a pipe inspector at Laclede Steel until his retirement. He was a member of the Bethalto Church of God where he served as deacon. He enjoyed golfing, reading, collecting Route 66 memorabilia and yard ornaments and he loved working in his yard.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Kathy and Michael Hartweger and a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Jr. and Sherri Worrell all of Bethalto; one grandson and his wife, Ethan and Miranda Ward of Bluford, IL; a niece and her spouse, Mary Frances and John Kesot of Plainfield, IL; a great niece and nephew, John and Darlene Kesot of Plainfield, IL; his in-laws, Charles and Midge Martin of Springfield, IL, Betty and Jim Kessinger of Greenville, IL, Joan and Jerry Mollet of Ripon, Wisconsin and Harvey Birmingham of Bethalto and several cousins.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Monday, August 18, 2014 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor Jeremy Robinson and Pastor Tim Campbell officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the Bethalto Church of God Building Fund.
