Donald Keith McKinney, 83, died at 4:45 p.m. July 3, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Health Center. Born in Roxana, he was the son of the late Virgil and Irene (Painter) McKinney. Don attended school in Alton graduating from Alton High School in 1948. He then attended Shurtleff College. During the Korean Conflict he spent four years in the Air Force. On May 9, 1954 he married Elizabeth Ann Larson whom he had met at Shurtleff. They had three children together and were married 59 years. In 1963 he began McKinney’s TV in north Alton. His interest and skills in electronics allowed him to meet people and serve the Alton area for over 30 years. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Susan (Inslee) Bennett of Edmond, OK, one son, Dennis (Jana) McKinney of Wood River, one sister, Carol Colyer of McClure, IL. He had four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Marty McKinney, a sister, Betty DeJarnett, and a brother, Ralph “Pete” McKinney. Because he was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey, a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the church. Reverend Jerry MeCaskey will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Capital Improvement Fund of the church. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
