Donald Arthur

Donald Ernest Arthur, 65, died at 12:20 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2011 at St. Louis University Hospital.Born in Portland, Oregon on July 15, 1945, Donald served three tours during the Vietnam War and retired from the United States Navy.He was a member of the American Legion, and had served as the past commader for the Kane American Legion Post 1038.He enjoyed fishing and boating, and volunteering for the Special Olympics.Surviving are his wife, the former Rita Susan Flynn whom he married on Nov. 5, 1999 in Jerseyville; three stepchildren, James Casey Russwinkel of Decatur, Sarah Russwinkel of Jerseyville, and Tara Arnett of Medora; and JD Grizzle of Kane, whom he always considered his son; along with several brothers & sisters.He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Cassandra & Nathaniel Grizzle.Visitation is Wednesday July 6 and will begin at 5 p.m., and conclude with services at 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 will conduct military honors immediately after the services with cremation to follow.Memorials may be given to the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 color guard.
