Donald “Don” W. Coppedge, age 88, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Alhambra Nursing and Rehab Center in Alhambra, IL. Don was born on August 27, 1936, in Hartford, IL, a son of the late Kenneth and Florence (Fox) Coppedge.
Don was a United States Army veteran who proudly served his country with honor. On December 28, 1955, Don married Betty Lou Ethridge, the love of his life in Greenville, IL, and Betty passed away on July 21, 2018.
Don was a charter member of Landmark Baptist Church in Collinsville, IL, from 1975. He was also a member of the YMCA in Edwardsville, IL. Don retired from Granite City Steel in 1998 after 39 years of dedicated service.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Don loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Coppedge, and by a sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and S.L. Green.
He is survived by his loving son, Donald L. (Pam) Coppedge of Granite City, IL; dear sister, Faye (Gary) Hoxsey of Wood River, IL; proud grandfather to Ashley Ulicni of Bloomington, IL and Tonya (Nick) Delaney of Maryville, IL; proud great-grandfather to Peyton Ulicni of Troy, IL and Zoey (John) Rea of Marine, IL; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In celebration of his life, a visitation will be held from 1 until p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. on Sunday, with Pastor Tim Henry officiating. Private interment will be at Hug Cemetery in Pocahontas, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Landmark Baptist Church. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
