Dollie Mae Chapman, age 88 of Godfrey died at 4:44 pm on Friday, February 3, 2012. She was born in Hickman County, Kentucky on December 31, 1923 the daughter of the late David F. and Annie (Cooper) Jackson. Dollie had worked part time at Alton Memorial Hospital and for the Alton School District. She was a charter member of Alton First Southern Baptist Church, now known as Heartland Baptist.
She married Willis E. Chapman on March 21, 1943 in Charleston, Missouri and he survives. Also surviving are one son and his wife, W. David Chapman (Linda) of Alton; two daughters and their husbands, Virginia "Jinny" Wallace (Harold) of Alton and Diane Dale (Charles) of Bethalto; six grandchildren, Sherry Peuterbaugh of Brighton, Denise Flannery of East Alton, David J. Chapman of Eddystone, Pa., Paul Wallace of Alton, Joshua M. Dale of Mesa, Az. and Jessica C. Dumler of Wood River; ten great-grandchildren and two brothers, David E. Jackson of Granite City and Raymond C. Jackson of Clinton, Ky. Dollie was preceded in death by a grandson, Phillip O. Chapman.
Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Tuesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Grant officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
