Dixie Lee Hammock, 72, passed away at 10:48 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital in St. Charles, Mo. with those that loved her by her side. Born Aug. 24, 1938 in Kampsville, Ill., she was a daughter of Olin and Louise (Krueger) Vetter. She was a very compassionate and giving person. A Christian woman, she was very accepting of everyone, regardless of their background. She had a vibrant and colorful personality and was known for her quick wit. She also was an avid reader until her eyesight declined. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jon Maleski of West Frankfort, Ill.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott and Donna Hammock of Holiday Shores and Bob Hammock; 9 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was a loving sister to Joann Evans and her husband Ron of Alton and Rollynda Morrow and special friend of the family Jodi Tamen of West Frankfort. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Nicholas Blackledge; a sister, Olinda Freiman; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Cole.
According to her wishes, her body was cremated, and services will be private.
Memorials may be sent to Marian Heights Apartments, 20 Marian Heights Dr., Alton, IL 62002 for flowers to be planted in her memory.
