Dennis L. “Denny” Schmidt, 63, died at 6:35 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 at his home. Born December 1, 1947 in Alton, he was the son of Dayton and Mildred (Batchelor) Schmidt. He owned and operated Ridge Package Liquor and was an avid runner. He was lovingly cared for by his significant other, Kristi Autery. Her children are Tyler and Erin. Also surviving are three daughters, Natalie Schmidt of Pocatello, ID, Alison Schmidt of Kirksville, MO, and Leah Schmidt of Alton, two sons, Jeffrey Davis and his wife Tammy of Makanda, IL, and Bradley Schmidt of Alton, six grandchildren, Jacob and Lexy Schmidt, Morgan and Mason Davis, and Dallas and Josh Siepert, two brothers, Allen Schmidt of Indianapolis, IN, and Robert Schmidt and his wife Coral of Alton, and one sister, Janice Garee and her husband Bob of Alton. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Reverend Daymond Talkington will officiate. Memorials may be made to the East End Improvement Association.
