Delphine Lois Amschler, 89, passed away on June 23, 2015 in Peoria, IL. She was born on June 21, 1926 in Jacob, Illinois, and was the oldest child of Edwin and Hulda (Luedemann) Darnstaedt. Delphine spent her childhood on the family farm in Jacob and graduated from Gorham High School in 1944. Later that year, she married her sweetheart, Victor Amschler. After Vic completed his time in the military, the young couple moved to the Alton/Godfrey area, raising three children—Darryl, Denise and Renee.
Delphine was employed for many years by the Alton School System, where she worked in school cafeterias, including serving as cafeteria manager before retiring. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Godfrey as well as the Alton Wood River Sportsmen Club. During her lifetime, Delphine also volunteered in many capacities, including the American Red Cross, St. Anthony’s Hospital, Caravan Resale Shop, and teaching Sunday school. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, antiquing, and decorating.
Several years ago Delphine and Victor relocated to Peoria, IL, to be closer to daughter, Renee.
Delphine is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Darryl Amschler, and brother-in-law Marvin Amschler. She was survived, briefly, by her husband, Victor of 70 years. She is survived by her daughters Denise Amschler (Neal Lambert) of Selma, IN, Renee (Chris) Lofgren of Peoria; daughter-in-law Patricia Amschler of Edwardsville; grandsons Marc Lofgren of Aurora, CO and Eric (Char) Lofgren of Buchanan, MI; three great-grandchildren, two brothers, Leroy (Delores) Darnstaedt of Bethalto and Bob (Liz) Darnstaedt of Godfrey, and sister-in-law Mildred Amschler of Chester.
The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care and support given to Delphine by the staff of Lutheran Hillside Village and OSF Hospice.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church in Godfrey. Reverend Randy Fischer will officiate.
