Delbert Eugene Morton, 75, died at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital.He was born on June 15, 1937 in Maryville, Mo., and was the son of the late Delbert Reed & Anna Marie (Lattin) Morton.He graduated from North Nodaway High School in Hopkins, Mo., and served his country honorably with the U.S. Marine Corp.He retired from Shell Oil Company as an operator after 27 years of service, but will be best remembered for his fierce love for his children and grandchildren, and his loyal dedication to the St. Louis Cardinals.He is survived by his six children & their spouses, Teresa & Rick Walker of Grafton, Tammy & Richard Maronie of Medora, Terri & Stan Stieglitz of Brighton, Dewey Morton, and his companion, Nikki Clark of Wood River, Kenneth & MacKenzie Morton of Wood River, and Kevin & Suzanne Morton of Alton; 20 Grandchildren; 18 Great Grandchildren; three sisters, Genevieve Willtrout of Congress, Az., Martha Morton of Hopkins, Mo., and Hazel Young of Maryville, Mo.; two brothers, Sam Morton of Tipton, In., and Kenneth Morton of Granite City; and a sister in law, Annabelle Morton of Maryville, Mo.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Patrick Henggeler; a son in law, Ross Spraggs; a brother, William Morton; and a sister, Mary Welther.Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Military rites will be conducted immediately following the visitation by the Tri County Color Guard.Burial will take place at a later date in his hometown of Maryville, Mo.Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
