Debra Lee (Stringer) Broers, 68, passed away peacefully at 3:40 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Ever Care in Jerseyville, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born in Jerseyville, Illinois, on October 5, 1956, the youngest of three beautiful daughters born to George and Dorothy (Sears) Stringer.
A proud graduate of the Class of 1974 at Jersey Community High School, she went on to earn her BS in Social Work from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Debra dedicated her professional life to social work, residing and working in both Gillespie and Carlinville, with Illinois Valley in Gillespie and Job Center in Carlinville. Her career was marked by a deep commitment to helping others-providing individuals with the tools and resources they needed to secure meaningful employment to improve their lives.
Her vibrant personality left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She had a great sense of humor and made friends easily. Her love for dancing and music brought joy to many gatherings, and her skill at poker was well known among friends. Creative at heart, she enjoyed crafting and decorating-especially making beautiful topiaries and thoughtful gifts. She also had a flair for fashion, often assembling stylish outfits from thrifted finds.
Surviving are her daughter, Kelsey Broers and her companion, Emerson James, of Springfield; a sister, Nancy Moulton of Jerseyville; a brother-in-law, Edward Hetzel of Jerseyville; along with many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Hetzel; and a nephew, Andrew Hetzel.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m., Saturday until time of funeral services at 11:30 a.m., at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the Huntington's Disease Society of America.
Debra's contagious laughter and generous spirit will be deeply missed by those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.
