David William Bauer, age 53 of Brighton died at 3:37 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011. He was born in Jerseyville on March 15, 1958 the son of the late John and Margaret (Zimmerman) Bauer. As an avid runner, he was a member of Team Alton and had run in the 2009 Boston Marathon. He was a member of the Prairielands Bloodhound Club and the American Bloodhound Club and enjoyed his time breeding, training and showing bloodhounds. David also enjoyed hunting every year and loved to garden. He retired from Laclede Steel in Alton and was currently working as a groundskeeper for The Sister’s of St. Francis of the Martyr’s of St. George in Alton and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. David married the former Pamela (Wright) in Godfrey on September 18, 1981 and she survives. Also surviving are a son; Steve Bauer of St. Louis, a brother; John Bauer (Royce) of St. Louis, two sisters; Freda Bauer (Dave Bannister) of Brighton and Florence Scheffel of Edwardsville, his father-in-law and mother-in-law; John and Betty Wright of Godfrey, sister-in-law; Bonnie Norris (Kenny) of Jerseyville, nieces and nephews; Tim Bauer, James Scheffel, Sheryl Hackethal, David Scheffel, Jenny Sizemore Natalie Sizemore-Hunt, Olivia, Emily and Clark Norris and numerous cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his fathers close companion; Nina Frey and a brother; Stoney T. Sizemore. A memorial mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Fr. Jim Walther officiating. Burial will be private.
