David J. Leggett, 73, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away at 1:52 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at his home.

He was born January 31, 1951, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the son of the late Joseph Henry and Lillian May (Madeux) Leggett. He married Janet C. (Zike) Cerny-Leggett on September 3, 2005, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Glen Carbon and she survives.

David retired in 2013 after many years of dedicated service as a machinist with the District 9 Machinists Local in Bridgeton, Missouri. He and his wife spent part of the year living in Alma, Colorado and had a love for snow skiing. He served over 50 years with the Professional Ski Instructors of America and enjoyed his many years as a Level 3 snow instructor in Breckenridge. He was also a talented woodworker and made many pieces of unique furniture and figurines throughout the years. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Edwardsville and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Elizabeth Cerny of Collinsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Ben Bruns of Wood River; a granddaughter, Sierra Bruns; nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt and Godmother, Shirley Laigle.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Edwardsville on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Robert J. Jallas as celebrant. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
