David J. Hill, 65, of Godfrey, passed away at 5:17 pm, Monday, April 14, 2014 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
He was born in St. Louis, MO on February 11, 1949, the son of the late Russell and Regina (Smentowski) Hill.
He married Ellen M. Damm on February 14, 1993 in Eureka Springs, AR. She survives.
David graduated from Normandy High School in St. Louis, in the class of 1967. He served in the U.S. Navy and then worked for Continental Can Company, and later retired from Metro Transit in St. Louis as a Bus Mechanic for 27 years. David was a member of the Alton Eagles Lodge FOE #254, GRAIL and INC Classic Impala and Caprice Car Clubs. He loved music and was in the original ZZ Top fan club. He also loved sports and cars, enjoyed camping, and spending time with his family and friends. He leaves behind his two beloved Schnauzers and pet birds.
In addition to his wife Ellen, he is survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Margaret and Kent Barnett of Wood River, Charles and Sally Damm of Godfrey, Paul Damm and Gail Chapman of Livingston; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gerald Hill.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 pm on April 27th in the Banquet room at Mac’s Time Out Lounge in Alton.
