David Howelman, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished member of the community. He was a man of many talents and a lifelong passion for mechanics, he leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and hard work.
David was president of FKG Oil/Moto Mart of Belleville, IL, for many years before retiring in 1995. He then moved to Bellaire, MI, where he served as a county commissioner for Antrim Country. While serving the community as commissioner, he championed the Commission on Aging and the Grass River Natural Area. He also was one of the founding builders of the Church of the Hills, a project for which he had great pride.
David was a man whose hands were always busy—whether restoring his beloved grandfather’s tractors, rebuilding engines, or breathing new life into vintage airplanes and watercraft. His mechanical skills were unparalleled, and he took immense pride in every project, always finding joy in bringing new life to the old and forgotten. His passion for mechanics was not just a hobby, but a way of life, one that he shared generously with those around him.
His love for all things mechanical was matched only by his deep devotion to his family and community. Throughout his life, he was a steadfast presence in the community, always ready to lend a hand, share his knowledge, or offer a kind word. Whether it was helping a neighbor with a car repair or participating in local events, David’s generosity and warmth touched everyone he met. His passion for teaching others, especially his children and grandchildren, about the importance of hard work, perseverance, and caring for the world around him will be remembered for generations to come. His generosity and presence were felt in every corner of his community, where he was both a mentor and a friend to many.
Above all, David was a family man—deeply devoted to his loved ones. His daughter and grandchildren will always remember his wise counsel, infectious laughter, and unwavering support. He was a constant source of strength, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he held dear.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and high school sweetheart, Joan Carol, nee Wagner, Howelman; his second wife, Dolly, nee Block, Howelman; a daughter, Jane Ellen Lanter; his parents, Earl and Margaret “Margie” Howelman; and two sisters, Phyllis Dane Howelman and Ann Louise Alves and companion, Lynne Warboy, nee Faulkner.
