David B. Whyte, 88, died at 7:02 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born February 11, 1926 in Godfrey he was the son of Frank and Sarah Oena (Kaufman) Whyte. David served his country in the Navy from 1944 until 1946. He was a loving husband and father and a good provider. He was a master craftsman and contractor and furniture designer and builder. He also enjoyed playing the piano and was an avid model plane enthusiast. On March 14, 1947 he married the former Dorothy Maxine Moxey at the Edwards Street Assembly of God Church in Alton. They were married for 67 years. Along with his wife he is survived by a daughter, Billie Sundberg (Kenneth) of Godfrey, three sons, Frank D. Whyte (Kathy) of Estes Park, CO, David Whyte (Robin) of Rainbow City, AL, and Matthew Whyte (Gina Gumina) of Estes Park, CO, nine grandchildren, Jay and Annette Sundberg, John Sundberg, Neal and Danielle Ericsson, Dan and Kim DeMey, Amy and C.P. Martinez, Daniel and Alexandra Temple, Parker Whyte, Taylor Whyte, and Olivia Whyte, 12 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Evelyn Foust of Alton, and Connie Farmer of Alton. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Eugene Whyte and a sister, Mary Irene Whyte. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Abundant Life Community Church in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014. Reverend Roy Rhodes will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to the Abundant Life Community Church.
